User Ownership

MoDriv is being developed as a decentralized, community-owned protocol with the aim to become a robust, secure, and transparent foundation for connected devices. Achieving this goal necessitates building MoDriv as a platform where control is distributed among a wide array of users and stakeholders, each with vested interests.

Traditional platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google, and connected vehicle platforms like Wejo represent "walled garden" models. Such platforms have shown tendencies to exert control and impose unclear rules regarding access, censorship, and data ownership, especially as developers grow successful within their ecosystems.

Web 2.0 business models often perpetuate these issues. MoDriv seeks to redefine this landscape, advocating for user-owned digital ecosystems as the new standard. This model is not only more equitable but also fosters innovation and growth.

By minimizing friction and bureaucracy, opening up MoDriv for global contributions, establishing a scalable operational structure, and aligning stakeholders with the $MDR token, the MoDriv platform and its associated applications are set to develop more effectively and rapidly.

Community Governance Currently, holders of the $MDR token have the power to create and vote on proposals that shape the network's operation. These MoDriv Improvement Proposals (MIPs) can modify MoDriv’s smart contracts and token functionalities, grant permissions (such as issuing licenses to hardware manufacturers for MoDriv-compatible devices), allocate tokens for grants, and more.

The MoDriv community faces no self-imposed limitations on its voting scope. Key activities anticipated for the MoDriv foundation include:

  • Designing and adjusting reward pools for drivers, including referral bonus programs.

  • Allocating resources to teams and individuals through streams, grants, and bounties. This funding could support various projects, like developing decentralized data storage infrastructure, optimizing vehicle data pricing and sales models, creating applications on MoDriv, and decoding DBC to increase vehicle compatibility.

  • Whitelisting third-party hardware suppliers for data-signing and streaming devices.

  • Managing the treasury for strategic investments and community growth.

In essence, the $MDR token not only fuels transactions within the MoDriv ecosystem but also empowers its holders to directly influence the platform's direction and development, ensuring that MoDriv remains a user-centric and innovative hub in the connected vehicle space.
